Adam Cohen graduated in Pharmacy and Medicine from Leiden University. He subsequently joined the department of Clinical Pharmacology of the Wellcome Research Laboratories where he obtained experience in early drug development as well as larger trials. He obtained a PhD degree from Leiden University (1986. He spent a training period in internal medicine and nephrology in King’s College Hospital London.Since 1987 he is director of the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR), a research centre for early drug development and proof of concept studies in healthy subjects and patients. He is professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Leiden University and has a clinical attachment at the department of nephrology at Leiden University Medical Centre. He is vice-chairman of the Central Ethics Committee and the Competent Authority (CCMO) of the Netherlands and Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology as well as a member of the Health Council of the Netherlands and the Council for Medical Sciences of the Royal Academy of Sciences of the Netherlands. He is married to Titia Overbeek MD and has three children.
